Research Report: How Design Teams Manage Product Data

Our analysis focused on the types of systems used, how they were used, and the correlation between system types and common product design failures. 

The results of this analysis should provide design and development teams information to help them benchmark their results relative to the industry. 

Here are a few selected insights that we gleaned from the survey data:  Approximately half (49%) of all respondents do not have a formal PDM/PLM system. Design teams spend a surprising number of hours each week looking for files and on other non-productive activities. Respondents were generally disappointed with their team’s performance on seven measures of design process control, from sharing data, to ECOs, to avoiding redesigning the same part.

Our analysis focused on their level of satisfaction with their CAD systems across several dimensions of performance. 

This research report is designed to help product development teams benchmark their CAD experience relative to other teams. 

Here are a few selected insights that we gleaned from the survey data:  While 88% of respondents said that it was important to standardize on a single CAD system, less than half of them reported doing so. Users reported dissatisfaction with many aspects of their CAD software, especially cost and ease of use. Reports of dissatisfaction correlated strongly and negatively with success in achieving on-time product launches and minimizing product development costs.

This research report focused on their level of satisfaction with their collaboration systems across several dimensions. The results of this analysis will provide design and development teams information to help them benchmark their results relative to the industry. 

Here are a few selected insights:  About one-third (32%) of product development teams do not have a formal collaboration solution. Product teams who lack a formal system reported low levels of satisfaction with many collaboration processes, such as quickly gathering feedback, securely sharing data, and remotely accessing important data. Users of cloud-based collaboration systems reported higher levels of satisfaction than users of server-based collaboration systems.

Deploying Commercial Electronics in Rugged Environments

When it comes to defense, all operations require a high degree of coordination and processing. As a result, airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) has become a crucial component of military activity.
